Hair Color Tips…
Preparation
-
Choosing a hair dye depends largely on skin tone. There are two types of skin tones — warm and cool. Warm skin tones usually have yellow undertones, and turn golden brown when tanning. Cool skin tones have blue or pink undertones. There are a couple ways to assess whether you have a warm or cool skin tone. Look at the veins in your arm; if they appear green, you have a warm skin tone. If they appear blue, you have a cool skin tone. Also try holding a white piece of paper up to your face while looking in the mirror. See if your skin looks more yellow or bluer than the paper.
Going Brunette
-
If you’re tired of being the blonde bombshell and want to add a little mystery to your look, becoming a brunette may be the right choice for you. Before you go out and buy a box of home hair color, decide which shade will be the most flattering on you. Blondes with pale skin may not want to go too dark, since this can wash out the skin and make you look pasty. The color choice should also coincide with your skin tone.
If you have a cool, fair skin tone, try an ash brown or a light beige. This will complement your skin tone without going too dark. Keep in mind that when changing your hair to a darker color, your makeup routine will also have to change. Eye shadows should be deeper, and lining your top lid with a black pencil will also make your eyes stand out. For cool skin tones that are deeper, such as an olive complexion, feel free to try ash or beige colors that are darker. For an ultimate change, try a blue-black.
For warm skin tones, try any type of brunette dye with the word “golden” in it. Rich chocolate and auburn colors also look great against warm skin tones.
Going Red
-
Red hair color will look bold and brilliant when applied to blonde hair. Because your hair is already so light, the pigment of the dye is more apparent. Red hair color tends to fade quickly; on blondes, red will eventually fade to a strawberry color. A good way to keep your red locks bright is by adding a little pre-mixed dye such as Manic Panic to your shampoo. You can also buy shampoos specifically designed for red hair.
Dyeing your hair red is the same as going brunette; base your color choice on your skin tone. Blondes with cool skin tones should probably avoid orange-based red hair altogether. This will wash you out. If you do have cool toned skin and want to try red, go for a purplish-colored red. This will match the blue undertones in your complexion.
Chunked Color
-
Adding chunks of color to select pieces of hair is easy to do when you have blonde hair. Adding punk stripes in pink, blue or purple will look brilliant and edgy without having to bleach the hair first. When coloring your hair unnatural colors like pink, try using a semi-permanent dye that will allow you to change the color as often as you’d like.
Chunked highlights or frosting are both easy looks you can achieve. Use a frosting cap or foils to choose select pieces of hair and apply a cream hair bleach. Because your hair is already light, you will only need to let the bleach set for about 10 minutes. It is best to check on your hair every five minutes when bleaching; just because your hair is lighter doesn’t mean you can’t over bleach it and cause damage.
How to Dye Your Own Hair Extensions
Hair extensions are a fun and easy way to update your look. There are two different types of extensions: synthetic and human hair. Hair extensions that are synthetic are generally made out of nylon or polyester. Human hair extensions are, of course, made out of human hair. Synthetic hair extensions are not able to be dyed or altered. However, human hair extensions can be dyed and styled just as you would with your own hair.
Instructions
- 1
Purchase the hair dye, developer, gloves and applicator bottle from a salon or beauty supply store. Avoid using hair dye from a box from the drugstore, as it’s much harder to match the hair color to your own. In addition, it’s more cost effective to purchase the supplies on your own.
- 2
Comb through and detangle the extensions. If they have any styling products on them, wash those out first. After they have been detangled, place the hair extensions on an old towel. Make sure that they’re totally dry.
-
3 Prepare the hair color mixture. Put on the gloves and mix the appropriate amount of hair color and developer together (follow the directions that are included with the hair color). Once the hair dye and developer have been poured into the applicator bottle, mix them together by shaking the bottle for approximately one minute.
- 4
Coat every strand of the hair extensions with the hair dye. It’s better to use too much rather than too little. You can use the comb to distribute the hair dye as well. After the hair dye has been applied to the extensions, place them on the towel. Follow the hair dye directions to determine how long to leave the hair dye on the extensions.
- 5
Rinse the hair dye out of the extensions using warm water. Once the hair dye is washed out, apply conditioner to them. Comb gently through the hair extensions after the conditioner has been applied.
- 6
Wash the conditioner out using cold water. This will seal in the hair color and make the hair shiny. You can then either use a blow-dryer to dry the hair extensions or allow them to air-dry.
7-Beautiful Uses for Vaseline

How to Find Your Skin’s Natural Undertones
Have you ever wondered why some colors look better on you than others? There are many things that can go into various colors of makeup or clothing looking good on you. You may look great in the color red but your best friend might look horrible in it!
Chances are you’ve heard of skin undertones in the past, but may not fully understand what they are, why they are important or how to figure out what yours is. Skin undertones are based upon the undertone hue of your skin and are broken up into cool and warm shades, with a few people falling into the neutral category. Those with bluish undertones are considered cool toned and those with greenish or yellow undertones are considered warm toned.
Why Knowing Your Undertone is Important
When you know what your skin’s undertone is, you’ll give yourself a few major fashion and makeup advantages. Knowing your undertone can help you choose to wear appropriate colors of cosmetics and clothing you might not typically choose otherwise. It gives you something to think about and allows you to be intentional when shopping for clothes or applying makeup. Beauty experts state that when you wear makeup and clothing in the best colors for your skin’s undertone, you’ll have more radiant looking skin, brighter eyes and beautiful naturally reflecting golden hair highlights. Of course, when you wear the wrong colors for your skin’s undertone, your skin will look dull, your eyes may look as if they have dark circles under them and your teeth can even look yellow. Sometimes people have neutral undertones, which naturally gives them many more options. This is not very common, however.
How to Find Your Skin’s Undertone
- Wrist Test:When sitting in natural lighting, look at the inside of your wrist. If you notice the area has a blue tint, you’re likely a cool toned gal. If your skin has a greenish tint, you’re likely warm toned. However, if you notice both blue and green undertones, you’re probably a neutral.
- Jewelry Test:If you think you look better in gold jewelry, you’re likely a warm tone. If you feel silver best complements your skin, you’re probably a cool toned person. However, if you look good in both gold and silver, you could be a neutral.
- White vs. Ivory Test:Most ladies know if they look best in bright white or in ivory. If you do find bright white makes you look vibrant, you’re likely a cool. However, if you find off-white or ivory looks best, you’re definitely a warm.
Cool Skin Undertone Tips
Those with cool skin undertones often have very dark brown skin with reddish undertones, brown skin with pink undertones, olive skin, medium colored skin with pink undertones or pale skin with pink undertones. Cool undertone beauties should think about choosing foundation colors that are best suited for their skin tone. Those who aren’t sure what to choose can seek help from a local cosmetic counter in their local department store. In addition, those with cool skin undertones look best in colors like fuchsia, pink, violet, blue, turquoise and bright white. For the lips, choose a burgundy, mauve or tulip color and for the eyes, pick blues or lavenders. When it comes to hair colors, stick with ash blonde and champagne or go darker with a light brown.
Warm Skin Undertone Tips
Those with warm skin undertones can also visit the cosmetic counter to determine what types and shades of face foundations are best for their undertones, if they need assistance. However, at home they can help work with their undertones by wearing colors like yellow, red, ivory, green or orange. When looking for flattering makeup colors, think about lip colors of putty, apricot or redwood or eye colors of apricot, plum or bamboo. If you want a new hair color, consider warm colors like golden blonde or golden brown.
Neutral Skin Undertone Tips
While people with neutral skin undertones can often get away with wearing any colors, there are still a few colors that look best on a neutral. For makeup shades of blush or lipstick, think about using toasted pink, rose or pomegranate colors and for the eyes look into grays or browns. When it comes to hair color, neutrals have it made! You can get away with any shade of blonde, brown or red, easily.
All in all, finding your skin’s undertones is a great way to be able to choose more appropriate clothing and makeup colors. By looking at the inside of your arm, you can figure out within moments if you are a cool or warm and start shopping accordingly!
How To Define The Shape of Your Lips
Sape up your lips Applying lipliner is not only a great way to define and accentuate the shape of your lips, but also to keep your lipstick from feathering.
1. Begin applyling lipliner at the center of your natural upper lip line to define the bow then work toward the outer corners to complete the line. 2. Start at one corner of your bottom lip then follow your natural lip line all the way to the other corner.
Tip: Choose a lipliner that matches your lipstick or a flesh tone shade for a soft, natural look.
Tip: To get plumper, pinker looking lips, do not touch up by drawing a hard lip line; smudge it so lips look fuller! For a more dramatic fullness, choose a lipstick shade with a hint of frost.
Tip: To avoid lipstick on your teeth, put your index finger in your mouth and then draw it out slowly with your mouth closed. What you see on your finger is what would have ended up on your teeth!

2. For longer lasting color, gently blot with tissue, reapply lipstick and blot again.
3. For evening, remember to select a lipstick one or two shades deeper than your daytime color.
Tip: For a creamy effect, apply a lip balm to lips before applying lipstick.
Tip: For a matte effect, apply lipstick then blot gently with tissue.
Tip: For a sheer effect, apply lip balm. Gently dot a small amount of neutral color lipstick across lips, then smooth out.
Tip: For a glossy effect, apply lipstick then finish with a clear or nuetral color gloss coat for a moist, seductive shine. Remember, the more coats you apply, the more shine so turn up the volume!
getting smooth, soft, and supple lips
Tip: For smooth, soft lips, take a clean damp washcloth and gently rub lips for 60 seconds before applying lipstick.
Tip: For touch-ups during the day or night, carry a soft toothbrush in your handbag or makeup kit. Be sure to brush your lips gently.
Tip: Apply a lip balm or conditioner throughout the day to keep lips hydrated and protected from the sun’s harmful rays.
